Simple and complex types of data recovery

Data recovery can refer to anything from polishing a DVD so as to make it readable to restructuring the logic on a RAID system so that it will auto-replace damaged files. When one attempts to find lost or accidentally deleted files on an MP4 player that is data recovery. This same thought applies to smart cards for digital cameras and USB drives as well. In fact any device that stores digital files can lose them and thus become a prime candidate for data recovery.

Interestingly the process of data recovery is universal for all of this hardware. Third party data recovery software must connect to the failed device and scan its storage for disjointed data. That data must be read and restructured according to most prevalent formats. This will result in MP3s being turned back into songs, NTFS partitions being rebuilt and Canon RAW files being undeleted. All of this is data recovery and there are simple to use DIY tools built just for this purpose.
